Pioneering tomorrow’s technologies

Another reason CAT succeeds in serving patients is our direct connection to a world-renowned academic medical center in Oakland. CAT is located in the same building as the distinguished rehabilitation science and technology laboratories of the University of Pittsburgh. This affiliation enables our clinicians to work directly with other University faculty on collaborative research to more closely link assistive technology and rehabilitation science.

To continue efforts to find groundbreaking solutions to physical obstacles, the University’s Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology has consistently secured numerous research grants through outside funding agencies.

Custom work: A CAT standard

At CAT, we believe in literally shaping the assistive technology around you and your lifestyle, like an architect designs a home to suit its future owner. Unlike most assistive technology providers, CAT maintains an on-site machine shop to customize and modify commercially available assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, for maximum comfort and efficiency. This not only ensures quality, but it can save days — even weeks — in delivering or installing your assistive device.

CAT’s fees are generally covered under most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medical Assistance, if care relates to a medical condition. If you are a member of an HMO, you may need a referral and prior authorization from your primary care physician.
